I’m Colin, a wedding photographer based in Hereford. I’ve been photographing weddings since 2012 and, more than 200 weddings later, I still genuinely love doing it.
You’re going to have me hanging around for a pretty big part of your wedding day, so it’s probably worth knowing a little bit about who I am.
When I’m not photographing weddings…
I’m married myself, and we eloped to Iceland for our wedding, just the two of us, getting married next to a mountain called ‘Hella’ before spending a few days exploring the country in a campervan.
When I’m not working I’m usually doing something considerably nerdier. I’m a big Warhammer fan, spend far too much time gaming and love cooking when I get the chance.
I also have chickens, who mainly seem to exist to destroy the garden and occasionally provide eggs.
Basically, when I’m not at a wedding with a camera, I’m probably painting tiny plastic people, playing something, cooking something or trying to stop a chicken from being somewhere it shouldn’t be.
Why weddings?
I’ve been photographing weddings since 2012, and one of the reasons I’ve stuck with them for so long is that no two are ever really the same.
You get all of your favourite people together in one place, usually with plenty of food and drink, and then see what happens. From a photography point of view, that’s pretty hard to beat.
I love the unpredictability of it — the nerves before the ceremony, people seeing each other for the first time, ridiculous speeches, kids doing whatever they want and dance floors that can go from completely empty to absolute chaos in about five minutes.
After 200+ weddings, those are still the things I enjoy photographing most.
After more than 200 weddings, I’ve seen most things a wedding day can throw at you.
Rain, late-running ceremonies, missing buttonholes, speeches that go wildly off-script and timelines that have completely gone out of the window.
It means I’m pretty difficult to panic. If plans change, we work around it. If something runs late, it runs late. And if the weather decides not to cooperate, we’ll figure something out.
Weddings don’t need to run perfectly to be brilliant — and they definitely don’t need to run perfectly to make great photographs.
