Most of the time when I’m out I don’t carry a ‘proper’ camera with me, but I always have my phone, the iPhone XR. The camera on this phone is just stunning and it’s mad to see how much phone cameras have come on in recent years, now of course they can’t stand up to my Fuji XH-1’s for work but having it with me all of the time is just perfect for me.

I use my iPhone in combination with VSCOcam, which is a fantastic editing app for IOS offering a range of simple to use adjustments and some really great presets, simply import the photos into the app, edit away and save to camera roll. If I need to get the photos on my computer (such as I did for writing this blog) I use airdrop which I find as the best way for transferring photos and video between apple devices.

In comparison to my standard camera the iPhone lack in a few areas, mainly speed of use and getting nice shallow depth of field, I would love the challenge of shooting a whole wedding on an iPhone, perhaps as a second shooter, just to see what the end result looks like.

Of course portrait mode is an option for photos of people and while the tech is very good it’s not quite there, yet.

Below are a range of photos taken and edited with my XR, having a camera all the time means I can take more snapshots as I’m out and about which is great.
