That Moment - Why a Photo Matters

It's train time!

It's train time!

Another in my series of explaining and looking at a single wedding photo. This time, as usual it's about the sometime odd nature of wedding photography and how a strange photo can make memories.

So this is from Christina & Jamie's wedding back a few months ago, one of the highlights of this wedding were the train rides around the grounds that made up most of the afternoon something which I've not seen at a wedding before but was a great unique thing to do.

Now of course the highlight was the fact I got to take a train ride as well, and that's what I like about this photo, it's a memory for the couple for sure, themselves and all the guests will remember going through the tunnel and around on the tracks. But this photo matters to me, something which I don't think wedding photographers take into account when shooting a wedding, because as much as it's a day about the couple, you are involved in their lives for this short window, you meet all of their friends and family and become part of the group. So for me this photo reminds me of how much fun I had shooting this wedding [and riding the train] and from my point of view if I get emotionally connected with what I'm shooting I believe it will make a better series of images for the couple.

So that's a slightly different reason a photo can matter and why I might take a shot like this, it is something which I hope I can look back on and that will remind me how enjoyable that day was and one day when I'm much older, when I'm not doing this anymore remind me of just what a fantastic job I had.

Thanks for reading, next week is my end of year review so stay tuned for that!

Cheers,
